MEDIA RELEASE

The Art Society of Trinidad and Tobago hosts its much anticipated Annual November Members’ Exhibition, dubbed NOVSHO/20

The exhibition opens on Friday 27th November at the Society’s Headquarters in Federation Park, featuring the works of over 30 of its members. The Art Society of Trinidad and Tobago’s President, Peter Sheppard, Curator for this exhibition has expressed the high standard of works received this year. The Art Society received an enthusiastic number of submissions which were present to a jury panel, comprised of senior members of the organization, which included a photographer, artists and art educators. Of the 111 entries that were scored, 68 were short-listed to advance to participate in this show, showing a diversity of skills, artistic style and a variety of media. Due to Public Health Regulations, the ASTT is looking at ways to celebrate the works of its member artists. We are not able to have the grand opening receptions of the past, but, we have taken precautions to enable visitors to come to the ASTT to participate in our events. At Friday’s opening, art lovers and artists are invited to come view the exhibition in support and celebration of our Visual Artists. All creatives have been significantly affected by the Global Pandemic and the Art Society, through it exhibitions and other activities, seek to engage artists and provide opportunities for them to have their work seen and sold. Collectors can expect to see new names and well as some established names as well in this exhibition. This exhibition is always popular with collectors as its in the Christmas Season and purchasing a gift of art is one special way to celebrate the yuletide season. Companies are also encouraged to purchase art from this show and take advantage of the 100% Corporate Tax Incentive that’s in place to promote art sales to Corporate entities. The Art Society of Trinidad and Tobago is 77 years old. making it the oldest Visual Arts Organization in the Caribbean and operates as a Visual Arts N.G.O.. It is located at the corner of St Vincent Avenue and Jamaica Blvd in Federation Park. Earlier this year, the society resolved its long-standing issue of the Lease for the land on which it stands. The new lease for the next 30 years, paves the way for the expansion of the Society. Some plans include adding additional exhibition space as well to establishment of a dedicated workshop studio. At present, the ASTT runs its programmes it the same space it started of with at this location, while the organization has grown over the years. Like any NGO, the Society is grateful for the contributions made from the Public and Corporate Sector to support its ongoing development in the Visual Arts.

This exhibition, NOVSHO/20 opens on Friday 27th November from 5pm-8pm and the exhibition hours are TUESDAYS – SATURDAYS from 12noon-6pm (Closed on Sundays and Mondays) For Membership and exhibition information, persons can call 622-9827 during regular gallery hours or email admin@artsocietytt.org The exhibition runs until 18th December, 2020.
